Welcome to the Center for Comparative Immigration Studies. A campuswide research unit of the University of California-San Diego, established in 1999, CCIS conducts basic and policy-oriented Research Projects on international migration and refugee flows throughout the world. We seek to illuminate the U.S. immigration experience through systematic comparison with other countries of immigration, especially in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Each year, our Visiting Fellowship Program brings together a multidisciplinary, multinational community of researchers sharing these interests. Through our global network of Research Associates, our Publications program, and Media Information program, we strive to disseminate the results of academic research to a broad array of users. Our Forced Migration Laboratory brings together academic specialists on refugee movements, NGO practitioners, and public policymakers to evaluate refugee resettlement and economic assistance programs. With UCSD's Eleanor Roosevelt College, we have created a new Minor in International Migration Studies to enable undergraduate students to develop a pre-professional specialization in immigration studies, including field research experience in immigrant-sending and receiving communities. We hope that you will use our on-line resources and join us at our Research Seminars and Conferences as often as possible. Your questions and suggestions are always welcome.

In August 2003 the Center moved into a new building on the campus of UCSD's Eleanor Roosevelt College.
